Devotees light the way on Wesak Day

About 3,000 devotees made their way started to make their walk to the temple as early as 8am to offer lotus flowers and light oil lamps as offerings to the grand Buddha.

The lotus is to remind devotees of the impermanence of life. The oil lamp is the light that dispels ignorance

The devotees also offered incense to Buddha.

Many tables had to be set up to accommodate the thousands of oil lamps.
Prayers and puja or religious hymns were chanted and hymns sung throughout the day. There was a procession around the temple ground. Leading the prayers was SJBA abbot Bhante Nyanaramsi.

There were Dhamma talks of Buddhist teaching and practices in life as well as blood and organ donation campaign on the temple grounds.

There were food stalls catering for those on the vegetarian diet that is customary on Wesak Day, for those devotees observing the vegetarian diet which is customary done on Wesak day.

A wall was dedicated to the aspiration and wishes of the devotees for the year. The wishes were written on a piece of paper and hung there.

Tan Swea Phin, 20, and Daniel Teoh, 23, wished for world peace and harmony among diverse cultures.

“I hope that all of us can live happily with one another,” said Tan.

The celebration was launched by SJBA patron Datuk Tang See Hang.

Also present at the event were Selangor state exco member Ronnie Liu, Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh, former Kelana Jaya MP Loh Seng Kok, Subang Jaya Municipal Council councillors Theresa Ratnam Thong and Robert Tan, and SJBA president Chim Siew Choon.

Yeoh presented the annual grant of RM10,000 to SJBA.
