Hanamatsuri means Spring Flower Festival. It is a day to enjoy good food and demonstrations of Japanese arts and crafts.

The Watsonville Buddhist Temple will celebrate its annual Hanamatsuri Flower Festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. The event commemorates the April 8 birth of Buddha.

A special Hanamatsuri service will be held at 10 a.m. in the Temple’s hondo chapel. The service is also open to the public.

The family-friendly festival is free and will include demonstration from noon to 1 p.m., art and cultural information, Japanese food and exhibits from the Dharma School and the Japanese Cultural School. Photo albums will be on display chronicling the temple’s history.

Sushi, teriyaki chicken, manju a Japanese confection, cabbage salad, baked goods and farm-fresh produce will be for sale.
