Gargantua in the Land of Snows was the original title given by Alexandra David-Neel. She noted in the manuscript: “Describing the manner in which the Tibetans eat approaches the field of ethnography.” Marie-Madeleine Peyronnet, the faithful guardian and continuer of the work of the amazing explorer adds: “If the study of a people’s food, its ‘cuisine’, is linked to ethnography, by the description of its prescriptions or its alimentary prohibitions it also often touches on its metaphysics. As a result, its interest is even greater.”
