VIETNAM’S OFFICIAL BUDDHIST WEBSITE LAUNCHED

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam – Giac Ngo weekly Newspaper, one of the oldest news agencies in Vietnam, is launching its website: http://giacngo.vn, the first Buddhist homepage with comprehensive introduction to Vietnamese Buddhism that stretches back thousands of years.

The site contains Buddhist news from around the country, Dharma essays, Buddhist culture, Buddhist education, Buddhist literature, Buddhist history, Meditation & Health, Consultancy, Buddhism & the Youth, document and library and so on. Most of the site’s information are contributed by monks, nuns, Buddhist experts, scholars and reporters at home and abroad.
The site is updated daily. Besides Buddhist activities and research reports, visitors can also get information on Buddhist temples, famous monks from the past to the present.
It was founded by most Venerable Thích Tri Quang, the editor-in-chief of the Giac Ngo. Its number license is 109/GP-BC, issued on March 19th, 2008. The site has already begun official operations.
It took around over two months to set up the site. The Sangha Order plans to hold an opening ceremony for the site next weekend, at Giac Ngo newspaper office, located at 85, Nguyen Dinh Chieu street, district 3, HCM city, Vietnam. The site will commence its service in Vietnamese. English and Chinese versions will be added later on.
“We can say that it is the first Buddhist site in Viet Nam. Although there have been a lot of Buddhist websites, they belong to individuals. We expect the site will serve as a portal for Vietnamese Buddhism, and offer useful information to Buddhist monks and nuns and Buddhist followers in everywhere. All of the contents are going to be translated into English and Chinese languages at the site in a few months”, Ven. Thich Thien Bao, content manager of the site said.
