This long dialogue with the Dalaï Lama (© 1980!) illustrates the depth of the Tibetan leader’s religious and political views, with recollections of his childhood, his discoveries, his thoughts concerning the necessity for morality in world affairs as well as a description of conditions in Tibet under Chinese occupation. Among other subjects are those concerning dreams, memory, rites, the origin of life and of the universe, as well as the development of the awakened mind, the altruist aspiration toward plenitude. The last chapter offers an especially brilliant approach to voidness – the ultimate nature of persons and other phenomena – according to the consequentialist view. This book, presented in question/answer didactic form, provides a considerable aid to the understanding of and the direct application of the Buddhist Path.
