A British retiree who became a respected Buddhist monk has been arrested in Thailand in a child pornography investigation after a tip-off from US investigators.
Fabian Frederick Blandford, 64, was arrested at his home in northern Thailand in a raid during which British police based in the country were understood to be present as observers.
Mr Blandford, a long-time resident of the kingdom, had been highly praised for his charitable work with tribal minorities and his teachings as a Buddhist scholar after ordaining as a monk.
He left the clergy to marry a Thai woman and the couple have two young children. Senior Thai officers detained him at the home they shared in the Fang district of Chiang Mai province near the Burmese border.
