July 6 — Dalai Lama’s birthday celebrations planned in Ithaca

The Tibetan Association of Ithaca invites the public to a special grant gathering for the 75th birthday celebration of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet from noon to 6:30 p.m., Mondayat Stewart Park’s Main Pavilion for a potluck lunch. Those attending are encouraged to bring a dish. There will also be volleyball and a movie.

Also, the anniversary of the birth of the Dalai Lama will be celebrated from 9-10 a.m. July 6 at Namgyal Monastery, 412 N. Aurora St., with a special prayer ceremony. Sweet tea, sweet rice, and birthday cake will be served. From 10:15-11:15 a.m. on the grounds of the new Monastery, Du Khor Choe Ling on Route 96B, the Tibetan Association of Ithaca will be hanging prayer flags and performing an incense burning ceremony for the long life of His Holiness. As the new monastery is a construction site, appropriate footwear is advised.
