Khen Rinpoche Lobzang Tsetan, now the Abbot of Tashi Lhunpo, was born in Stok, Ladakh, India where his family encouraged him to study Tibetan Buddhism in Tibet. He walked there at 16 with his father, 2,500 miles through the Himalayas and up to the former Tashi Lhunpo monastery, seat of the great Panchen Lama. But his studies were interrupted in 1960 when the Chinese Communist arrived and took over the monastery. This is the story of Khen Rinpoche Tsetan’s journey that led him on to be the Abbot, and a leader for the future of Tibetan Buddhism. From his practice in India, he strives to fulfill the wishes of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for a new Prayer Hall at Tashi Lhunpo in exile. The Panchen Lama – Tashi Lhunpo Project supports his efforts in honor of both the Dalai Lama and the missing 11th Panchen Lama.
