Medvedev speaks of role of Buddhism in maintaining civil peace, accord in Russia

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has sent a telegram to Damba Ayusheyev, the head of the Buddhist Traditional Sangha in Russia, congratulating him on the 15th anniversary of his enthronement.

“For all these years you have preached the eternal values of Buddhism fulfilling our responsible mission. You are doing a lot to strengthen the spiritual and moral ideas of people who belong to this ancient religion,” the Russian president said in the telegram.

The president also pointed out Ayusheyev’s efforts to restore spiritual and educational centers in Russia.

“You are building new temples and restoring Buddhist spiritual and educational centers in Russia. The Buddhist Traditional Sangha is actively working on developing intercultural and inter-religious dialogue and maintaining civil peace and accord in our country,” Medvedev said.
