The 160 member group gave a spectacular performance to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Indo-China diplomatic ties and through their music gave the audience a brief glimpse of Chinese music, which continues to remain an enigma in the minds of most people.
Organised by ICCR, Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China and Chinese Embassy to commemorate the long standing diplomatic ties between India and China, the symphony was divided in to a prelude and four movements.
An artistic expression to universal harmony and brotherhood through the spirit of Chinese Buddhism, the performance highlighted parts related to the life of Lord Buddha and used instruments like wooden Qing (a percussion instrument), various religious musical instruments and long interval drums with bells.
The soprano, Shen Na, with her haunting voice also struck a chord with audience.
The symphony was a collaboration of Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Opera House Chorus and the Sangha Chorus of Shenzhen Hongfa Monastery.
India has already inaugurated Festivals of India in China in the presence of External Affairs Minister, S M Krishna.
