KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 – Malaysians must make it a habit to help disaster victims in other countries, said Deputy Information Communication and Culture Minister Senator Heng Saei Kie.

She said the effort of 40 Buddhist organisations coming to the aid of earthquake victims in Haiti was something that should be emulated.

“It is my hope that efforts like this will help raise awareness among Malaysians on the need to help others in need.

“At the same time, we must be also thankful that we live in a country that is very peaceful and blessed by God. We are free of any major threats or disasters,” she said after attending the “Sound of Campassion” concert organised by Malaysian Buddhists for Haiti earthquake victims, here Sunday.

Meanwhile, Chief Monk (Judiciary) of Malaysia B. Sri Saranankara Nayaka Maha Thera said the organisation collected RM208,888 for the Haiti Fund.
