Monks in Sagya Monastery of Tibet has raised 100,000 yuan as of Thursday to assist disaster relief work in the Jiegu Monastery locating in the quake-devastated Yushu County, Qinghai Province.
Peldan Donyus, abbot of the Sagya Monastery, is now en route to send the relief fund to Yushu, together with an abbot in Tibet’s another monastery belonging of Sagya Sect.
They will enter Yushu via the Sichuan-Tibet Highway by way of Nyingchi, Chamdo, Derge and Sichuan Shiqu, covering a total lenght of more than 2,000 kilometers and costing them about nine hours and a day to reach the Yushu County.
Peldan Donyus said: “The fund is no much, and we will further try to help the quake-hit monks and victims to get over the difficulties.”
Sagya Monastery was built as early as in 1073 and it’s the major monastery for Sagya sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It hosts vast of cultural relics and sutra. The maintenance work was launched in 2002 and invested as much as 90 million yuan by the state.
