India is paying rich tribute to Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his 119th birth anniversary. Several functions are being organised in different parts of the country to mark the occasion.A floral tribute was offered here at the Ambedkar statue in front of the Assembly. Speaker K Radhakrishnan, Devaswam Minister kadnnapally Ramachandran ,Mayor C. Jayan Babu attended the function in the morning.
Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar or Dr B.R. Ambedkar who is the Father of Indian Constitution was also known as Babasaheb. He was born in the British-founded town and military cantonment of Mhow in the Central Provinces (now in Madhya Pradesh) as the son of Ramji Maloji Sakpal and Bhimaba.
Dr. Ambedkar was also an Indian jurist, political leader, Buddhist activist, philosopher, thinker, anthropologist, historian, orator, prolific writer, economist, scholar, editor, revolutionary and a revivalist for Buddhism in India. He was also the chief architect of the Indian Constitution.
After studying law, political science and economics from London School of Economics and Columbia University, he practiced law in India and also issued journals for the upliftment of the Indian untouchables. Dr Ambedkar also founded the ‘Independent Labour Party of India’. Ambedkar has been honoured with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award.
