Buddhist educator, filmmaker and founder of the proposed Siddhartha School for Lismore, Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche (pictured) will be giving a free talk at Southern Cross University this Friday, April 9, from 1pm.

The title of the talk is ‘Influence of Buddhist Culture in Australia’ and will cover Rinpoche’s long-term vision of establishing secular schools based on Buddhist principles around the world.

Spokesperson Simon Thomas said a group of people had been working for several years to establish a school in Lismore, but they were still looking for a suitable site.

The proposed school would teach broad-based Buddhist principles, such as cause and effect.

“Using Buddhist philosophies and working through the national curriculum, kids will be given a closer understanding of how things work in the world. There will be a focus on arts and taking responsibility for our thoughts and actions and also on sustainable living,” Mr Thomas said.

The free talk will be held in lecture theatre U2.31, just below the Law School.
