Jampa Ling was established in 1990 under the guidance and spiritual direction of Panchen Ötrul Rinpoche. It is a residential retreat centre located among the hills and lakes of north west County Cavan in the Republic of Ireland.
Centred in a large Victorian house called Owendoon, Jampa Ling is situated in thirteen acres of meadow, woodland and gardens, and borders a lake.
Jampa Ling means “the place of love and kindness,” Grough said. The Tibetan Lama at the monastery injects an energy into the place that many people pick up by feeling calm and peaceful.
The name Jampa Ling means ‘place of infinite loving-kindness’. The Centre is run by a small group of Panchen Ötrul Rinpoche’s students and supported by many others scattered near and far across the world. It is open to visitors, both Buddhist and those of other traditions (or none).
The Aims of the Centre
– To preserve the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and culture through teaching meditation and Dharma practice.
– To assist in the re-establishment of monasteries in Tibet.
– To work for the re-establishment of Buddhism in Mongolia and relieve the difficulties of the Mongolian people.
– To promote inter-faith dialogue at a deep spiritual level in the context of the work for peace in this island.
– To support Tibetan refugees and their monasteries in India.
– To work for peaceful co-existence between all living beings.
– To encourage conservation of earth’s natural resources and to develop an awareness of the interdependence of existence.
Jampa Ling has recently completed the conversion of an old stone barn and coach house to provide new accommodation for groups of up to twenty people. The new facility is called ‘Tara House’. Provision of a mobile-home at the southern end of the walled garden for longer solitary retreats has also recently been achieved. The founder of the Centre has donated some of these buildings to the Jampa Ling Trust and our board of trustees wish to further consolidate the future of the Centre by purchasing Owendoon House.
