Typhoon : Tibetan monks in taiwan pray for victims

Taiwan, Taipei — The Tibet Religious Foundation of this holiness Dalai Lama orgnize in 15 august a special prayer ceremony in Taipei for the victims of MORAKOT, one of the worst typhoons in the region’s history.

Having landed in Taiwan since 8 august, the historical disaster have killed in southern and central island 500 lifes estimated, with 126 death confirmed, and resulted 7000 homeless servivors, said the report.

The ceremony was led by Tibetan monks including former abbot from Sera Jay monastery. Many Taiwanese Buddhist followers and all staff members of The Tibet Religious Foundation were also present.

Accorinding to The Tibet Post (TPI) , The typhoon had mainly hit southern Taiwan, particularly Liouguei Township, and Shiao Lin village Kaohsiung County where 398 people were still buried alive.

As last weekend was Taiwanese Father’s day, there were more people in the village coming back to get a family reunion when the storm arrived, a resident said to the TPI.

Keary Huan, Taipei correspondent for The Tibet Post reported that now survivors in village Shiao Lin have took an initiative to contact with the central government, “finally more than 200 villagers from Shiao Lin have been moved to a safe place and total of 571 people from Shiao Lin are now safe.” He said.
