IIT5454.jpgINDE – Entering one of the thirteen Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is a dream for many of the Indian students. These prestigious universities, with a tough selection used to only recruit brahmanes, and other students from upper castes.

But this time is now over with the implementation of quotas for people from lower castes since 2008. This measure has been a true success : 40 % of applications received for 2009 come from lower-caste students, that is to say about 155 000 people according to The Times of India.
