Figure of the Tiananmen demonstrations against the oppression in 1989; Liu Xiaobo is still a figure of opposition to the socialist regime today, which led the authorities to arrest him again last December.

On the 8th of October, Liu Xiaobo was jailed after he tried to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights. In fact, Liu and other activists launched a campaign for democratic reforms, including a charter which he signed and helps to write to reaffirm his support to the democratic cause in China.

Since his imprisonnement, none among his relatives has known where he has been held prisoner, even his own wife. The official purpose for his imprisonnement was released yesterday by the Chinese authorities : he is suspected of «activities aiming to subverse or overthrow the socialist system».

Neithertheless his lawyer, Mo Shaoping, hadn’t received any notification concerning Xiaobo’s imprisonnement before the press released the information. But it is still not a charge as the investigation keeps going on according to Shaoping. The lawyer still doesn’t know where Liu is jailed.
