It seems film-makers in Bollywood have suddenly developed a fascination for Lord Buddha. Multiple films are being made on the life and times of Buddha.

One of the films is being directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Initially he was in talks with many big celebs for the title role. Then he apparently decided to cast a new face for which he launched a worldwide search.

Another film in question is being made by producer Yash Patnaik which will be directed by Shyam Benegal.

Finally, a third film on the subject is slated to be directed by Indian film-maker Pan Nalin, who came into global limelight with his award-winning film Samsara.

Yash says, “We have done two-and-a-half years of research work and we are very confident about our project. And to be honest I am sure that all the films have different takes on Buddha.

Though there have been so many films on the life of Gandhi or Jesus, each one has been unique.”

What about commercial prospects? “There are millions of people across the world who follow Buddhism. And there are million others interested to know about the religion. So, there is enough scope for a film commercially,” Yash ends.
