The delegation, including the most respecte moks in China and officials from China Buddhist Association, is led by Venerable Shi Ye Chang, vice President of the Buddhist Association of China and also abbot of Ling guang temple in Beijing. This is the second visit to Sri Lanka by Chinese Buddhist delegation, a tour “organised to strengthen the Buddhist cultural relations between the two countries” according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Sri Lanka.
During 8 days visit, Chinese buddhists participated the spectacular “Randoli Pageant” on the 5th of August, and toured the city of Kandy, Dambulla, Sigiriya rock fortress, Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya, Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, a Dutch Fort and a Catholic Church in Negambo.
The delegation also payed courtesy calls on President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Most Venerable Maha Nayaka Theros of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters and other Buddhist leaders of Sri Lanka.
The visit is, with a view to “enhancing the bilateral Buddhist Cultural relations between the two countries”, arranged by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Beijing with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo and the Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, declared the Beijing Sri Lanka Embassy.
