A Chinese translation of the Tirukkural might soon be in the offing with internationally renowned Taiwanese poet Yu Hsi agreeing to former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s suggestion on the same.

At a felicitation function for the poet at Anna University - Chennai on Wednesday, Mr. Kalam presented a copy of the Tirukkural to Yu Hsi and said the translation could be ready by December-end.
He also read out a poem written by him in honour of Mr. Yu Hsi’s visit to the University organised as part of the Literary Club’s activities.

Mr. Yu Hsi, a Buddhist monk who has received many awards for his poetry, read out two of his poems celebrating nature and praising Prof. Kalam to the audience.

He also presented a scroll of poetry to the former President.

Earlier, S. Mohan, former Supreme Court judge, described Mr. Yu Hsi’s emphasis on spirituality and kindness in his poetry. He remarked that Mr. Yu Hsi’s poetry was full of admiration for Indian culture.

S. Sathikh, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Madras, said Mr. Kalam and Mr. Yu Hsi shared a passion for children and poetry. P. Mannar Jawahar, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University - Chennai, delivered the presidential address.
